5-ingredient homemade whole wheat bagels! I love making these to use for breakfast sandwiches with egg, arugula, red onion, and tomato! Hope you enjoy ❤️
recipe (makes 8 servings)
- mix 1.5 cups warm water with 1 tsp active yeast in a small mixing bowl
- in a separate large mixing bowl add 2 cups whole wheat flour, 2 cups bread flour, 1 tbsp sugar and 1.5 tsp salt
- pour yeast and water mixture into flour a few tbsps at a time and stir with fork until it becomes thick enough to form with your hands and knead
- place dough into a bowl, cover with a cloth, and let sit for 45 mins - 1 hour
- bring a large pot of water to a boil
- cut dough into 8 pieces and roll into equal sized balls about 1.5” in diameter
- make an imprint with your thumb in the center of the dough to form a hole for the bagel shape
- place bagels into boiling water for 2-3 mins on each side (option to do one at a time or a few at a time if you have large pot)
- place onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper
- whisk the egg in a little bit of water and brush egg wash over the top of the bagels
- add your seasoning of choice (EBTB seasoning, dried rosemary, sesame seeds, etc)
- enjoy fresh out of the oven, and freeze the rest to use throughout the next few weeks!
